Diagnostic Testing (Non-Invasive)
Diagnostic Testing (Intensive & Interventional)
Alternative Medical Methods
Our practice specializes in cardiovascular and peripheral vascular diseases. We are a full-service practice offering consultative services as well as cardiac diagnostic testing. We recommend that patients are established with a primary care physician. Prince William Cardiology Associates was established in 1977 by Dr. Christopher J. Leet. His associates, Dr. Nadim A. Geloo, Dr. Morton E. Kalus, Dr. Michael G. Escaño and Cindy M. Orth, CANP join in the practice’s commitment to provide the community with superior cardiovascular and peripheral vascular care.
Consultations
Consultative services allow the physician to evaluate, assess and give his opinion regarding management of a patient’s cardiac problem. Consultative services often include communication with other health care providers.
Diagnostic
Testing (Non-Invasive)
Stress testing, stress echo and Dobutamine
stress echos are performed on patients who are at increased risks
for heart disease as well as evaluate for overall fitness or the effects
of medications or interventional procedures to prevent further disease.
Nuclear stress testing is performed to help determine how well your heart works under stress. The harder you work, the more oxygen and energy you use and the faster and harder your heart beats. Nuclear stress imaging measures the blood flow to the heart through a series of pictures and allows your physician to evaluate whether your heart receives enough blood from the arteries.
MUGA scans allows the physician to determine the percentage of blood that is ejected by the heart at each beat, known as the ejection fraction. This exam does not require exercising or stress of your heart.
Echocardiography is an ultrasound
of the heart to evaluate the structure, function and pumping action
of the heart. It also evaluates the heart valves. It can show damage
to the heart from a heart attack or infection. Our Echo lab is ICAEL
accredited.
Ambulatory monitoring includes 24 hour
holter monitors, 30 day event monitors and 24 hour blood pressure
monitors. These studies evaluate heart rhythms, capture actual
heart rhythms associated with patient symptomatology and blood pressure
outside the doctor's office.
Our pacemaker clinic monitors patient's
pacemaker periodically throughout the year to evaluate for optimum battery
life and indications for battery depletion.
Vascular studies include carotid
ultrasound, lower extremity arterial and venous evaluations, and abdominal aorta ultrasound. These studies allow the physician to assess blood flow,
both arterial and venous to evaluate for blockages. Our vascular lab is ICAVL accredited.
Diagnostic Testing
(Invasive & Interventional)
Cardiac catheterizations are a diagnostic
tool used to evaluate coronary artery occlusions. These are performed
at Fairfax Hospital by Dr. Geloo. These exams can lead to interventions
to include angioplasty or stenting of the coronary artery affected by
blockages.
Peripheral catheterization (or angiography) is a diagnostic tool used to evaluate arterial blockages in the lower extremities. These exams can lead to interventions that may include stenting of the peripheral artery affected by blockages. These are performed at Fairfax Hospital by Dr. Geloo.
Renal angiography is a diagnostic tool used to evaluate renal (kidney) artery occlusions. These exams can lead to interventions that may include stenting of the renal artery affected by blockages. This exam is also performed at Fairfax Hospital.
Alternative Medical
Methods
Mind-Body concepts are used frequently in
conjunction with, and as an alternative, to standard medical practices.
Meditation techniques can be useful in controlling anxiety/stress reactions
and for controlling obesity.
